The Government of the Republic of Liberia has commended the African Union for formally endorsing Liberia’s candidature for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) for the term 2026- 2027.
The decision to formally endorse Liberia’s candidature was adopted on July 14, 2023, in Nairobi, Kenya, at the 43rd Ordinary Session of the Executive Council of the African Union, reaffirming the earlier endorsement by the AU Ministerial Committee on Candidatures in 2022.
States Parties to the United Nations Convention on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination on Thursday, June 22, 2023, elected Liberian Human Rights Lawyer, Cllr. Pela Boker Wilson to serve as one of the Independent Experts on the Committee for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (CERD) for a four-year term beginning January 2024.
Her Excellency Ambassador Anna Karin Eneström, Permanent Representative of Sweden to the United Nations and Chair of the Liberia Configuration, Peacebuilding Commission has stressed the need to urgently address the funding gap of 25.5 million US dollars to ensure the successful conduct of the Presidential and Legislative elections in October.

The Permanent Representative of the United States to the United Nations, H.E. Ambassador Linda Thomas Greenfield, says the United States remains a strong ally of Liberia and stands ready to further enhance the collaboration with Liberia, especially at the United Nations.

Liberia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Her Excellency Sarah Safyn Fyneah, is urging the world to sustain the spotlight on water challenges in national, continental, and global forums.
The Liberian Envoy cautioned that the world cannot afford to wait another 50 years to take concrete actions in addressing the severe water-related challenges globally.
