News and Events

Excellencies, Distinguished Colleagues,

Let me begin by conveying the gratitude of H.E. Joseph Nyuma Boakai. Sr., President of the Republic of Liberia to the presidents of your respective countries, and to your

excellencies Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Permanent Representatives for the collaboration and support you gave us throughout the campaign period.
It is with profound gratitude that I stand before you today, as we jointly-Bahrain, Columbia, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Latvia, and Liberia close our campaign for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council for the term 2026-2027.

Despite our differences as nations, we share a fundamental responsibility: to foster a world that is more peaceful and secure. A world where development reaches all, ensuring that everyone, no matter their location, has access to sustainable and substantial livelihoods.

Excellencies,
We seek seats on the Council at a time of significant geopolitical shifts, a period where multilateralism faces serious challenges. Ongoing conflicts demand urgent attention, alongside transformative global initiatives such as the UN80 agenda, the Pact for the Future, and the accelerated drive to fulfill the promises of the Sustainable Development Goals within the next five years. Now more than ever, we must reaffirm our commitment to a rules-based international system.

Our first test as a cohort will be our ability to remain cohesive and united in our work on the Council. While complete agreement on every issue may be unrealistic, our collective strength will be measured by how effectively we come together to take decisive action on matters that impact human lives and global peace.
Throughout this campaign, Liberia has presented its vision: a vision shaped by our resilience and driven by our unwavering dedication to multilateralism. We have pledged to be a steadfast advocate for conflict prevention, peacekeeping and peacebuilding; women, peace and security; youth, peace and security; and to explore the climate-conflict nexus and the link to natural resources.

Our national experiences, forged through the trials of war and the triumphs of reconciliation, gave us the lived experiences of peacebuilding, conflict resolution and democratization. Our role in multilateralism since we sat around the table in 1945 when the United Nations was founded has taught us the immeasurable value of diplomacy and dialogue—values we hope to bring to the deliberations of the Security Council.

We do not seek a seat on the Security Council just to make a name for our country, that is why we like to say, even though the name plate around the table will be Liberia, and the seat will be Africa’s, our perspective will be global.
Liberia remains committed to upholding the principles of the United Nations Charter and strengthening our partnerships with all nations of the world. We will continue to engage constructively, to stand for peace and security, and to champion the voices of nations striving for peace and stability.

Together, let us build a future where dialogue prevails over discord, where justice triumphs over instability, and where nations, large and small, find their place in shaping a stronger multilateral institution.
Towards a just and peaceful world.

Thank you.
