UN HQ, Manhattan, New York, United States | October 8, 2025: The Republic of Liberia has re-echoed calls at the United Nations General Assembly to strengthen multilateral cooperation and concrete actions to accelerate progress on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) with a stern warning and reminder that the world is dangerously off track.
Addressing Plenary at the Second Committee of the 80th UN General Assembly on Tuesday October 7, 2025, Cllr. Naomie M. Gray, Assistant Foreign Minister for International Cooperation, stated that with only five years remaining to achieve the 2030 Agenda, the compounded crises of the pandemic, climate change, and economic instability have reversed progress and widened development gaps.
She told delegates that Liberia’s journey from post-conflict recovery to democratic consolidation has shown that global solidarity and multilateral cooperation are not optional but imperative.
Drawing from Liberia’s resilient development path, its recent democratic profile as well as its election to the UN Security Council for the 2026-2027 term, Cllr. Gray outlined a comprehensive vision for a renewed global compact for development, centered on several key pillars. She stressed upon Financing for Development; Climate Action, Economic Diversification, Governance and the ‘Pact for the Future’ initiative as some of the critical areas of focus for global interventions to get back on track.
“Liberia’s development journey is one of resilience, partnership, and hope,” Cllr. Gray concluded. “We call on all Member States, development partners, international financial institutions, and the private sector to join hands in a renewed global compact for development. Let us use the remaining years before 2030 not only to deliver on promises, but to reaffirm our shared humanity and collective responsibility.”
